Bride being helped by her bridesmaids in a modern, artistic 35mm photograph at Casa Sacoto

Anna and Tom's wedding at Casa Sacoto was documented fully on film - the first time I did so. It also happened to be my first time at the venue, a bright, sunny and peaceful venue just outside of Lisbon. I don't think I could have chosen a more perfect scenario for shooting fulling on film for the first time - the slow pace of the day and the intimate, elegant atmosphere of Casa Sacoto matched the energy and aesthetic of 35mm to a tee. I used both 35mm and medium format on the day (as I always do), but the pace and spontaneous energy of 35mm seemed to exactly suit the day. The wedding felt like the perfect mix between a chic garden party from the 60's and a laid-back family reunion from the 80's.

Casa Sacoto is less than an hour away from Lisbon but feels like it belongs to a different world - the gentle hills that surround the venue seem to protect it in a bubble of calm and quie. I remember walking around the garden as the afternoon light was starting to soften, admiring just how comfortable and at home every one seemed to be: kids doing headstands on the lawn; guests chilling by the pool while others sat and talked in the shade; Anna and Tom could be seen walking from group to group holding hands and smiling. Everyone seemed to inhabit a dimension that would exist only for that day.
